Ah, I had so hoped to pass through the college application process without actually having to audition but, alas it looks like that won't be happening.

I got an e-mail from Stephens today inviting me to submit a video audition to qualify for a theater department scholarship. It seems like too good an opportunity to pass up so I have to come up with an audition in the next month (two contrasting monologues, one classical and one contemporary.) Thankfully I'm not utterly on my own with this... Laura, Allen and Jeff all had suggestions for the contemporary piece (I'm going to have to get Laura to expand on her suggestions because she had some good ones), and then Jonathan offered to help me with the Shakespeare. He helped me find a monologue that I *really* liked (from "The Winter's Tale") and he's going to help me with it. Also he has a friend who is starting a video recording related business and would probably record my audition for a not completely outrageous price.

So, though it sounds like a lot of work, I'm actually looking forward to working on this. I've only ever done one monologue before so I'm completely clueless as to how to go about it! Should be fun ;)

Lol I just copied most of Hannah's  categories because I am too lazy to come up with any of my own :)

Top 5 Movies I Saw
5. Scoop. Another brilliant and original romantic comedy (plus it stars HJ, how can you get better then that?) Is it mere coincidence that the two romantic comedies on this list are both Woody Allen movies?
4. The Night of the Iguana. I do love Tennessee William's plays and this was an excellent adaptation. Ava Gardner had a very interesting take on her character. Nothing like how I had imagined the character to be, but very intriguing.
3. Rent. Anything with Idina in it has got to be good. Also, we must not forget Adam's lovely jeans with the chains on them...
2. Annie Hall. Yet another movie I loved... it was so sweet and completely original (which is always very surprising in a romantic comedy.)
1. Walk the Line. I love this movie so much, and no, I can't begin to explain why.

Top 5 Songs I Heard
5. That's What I want by David Kirshenbaum. Lol, this song cracks me up and Kerry Butler is so dang cute. Ditto Neil Patrick Harris
4. Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell- Sung by Susan Egan this is a gorgeous song, sung by Joni Mitchell... not so much.
3. Roses by Janis Ian. Didn't like this song the first time I heard it but now I am completely in love with it.
2. Only the Good Die Young by Billy Joel. This song is a lot of fun. It was hard to pick my favorite Billy Joel song to put on this list (as with JRB I am attempting not to mention more then one of his songs, since if I didn't then this list would have nothing but songs by them on it.) but this is probably it.
1. Someone Else's Clothes by Jason Robert Brown. Hannah put this at the top of her list and I am going to have to leave it here for mine. JRB is an absolute genius... plus he is my celebrity boyfriend so I must support him :)

Top 5 Shows I Saw In Theaters
5. The Glass Menagerie at IT. It's Tennessee Williams, the actors were all great and the direction was pretty fascinating (the lighting in particular), loved it!
4. Wicked, in New York. This was just as good (if not better) then I thought it would be. Though the Fieyero we saw sorta sucked.
3. The Woman in White, in New York. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this. It's Andrew Loyd Webber for goodness sakes! Still haven't been able to figure out why I loved it so much...
2. The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) at IT. This was so good I had trouble deciding whether or not I enjoyed it more with the cast we saw or the original cast (as seen on the DVD). Ultimately I decided I enjoyed seeing it in the theater better... the actors were making up lines all over the place which was awesome. Plus I was the subject of audience participation which is always cool.
1. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, in New York. Aaaaah this was amazing! Perfect cast, perfect show.

Top 5 Interesting/Important Events
5. Got my driver's license. And I only messed up the parallel parking once! Woot woot!
4. Did my college applications. You will all be forced to hear updates on this as I get answers so yes, it was pretty important ;)
3. Scored well on my SATs. *defensively* Well it was important to ME.
2. Went to New York with Hannah. Definitely one of the high points of the year! We saw all sorts of shows and have a brilliant time. Yayness!
1. Worked at the International Theater. The best thing I've ever done! Seriously, I love it, and I'm so excited for the rehearsals for "An Inspector Calls"!

Top 5 TV Shows I Watched At Least Bits Of
5. Lost. Actually I think I discovered this last Christmas but whatever...
4. Whose Line Is It Anyway? Hannah introduced me to this show and I have since spent many hours downloading and watching clips on youtube.
3. Gilmore Girls. This show is actually really fun and really sweet, despite it's corny premise. The one drawback? Luke.
2. Friends. Another sweet and funny show.
1. Grey's Anatomy. I'm shocked. There *is* a doctor show that I can sit through happily! In fact, I enjoyed both seasons one and two immensely. Can't wait till season three comes out!

Top 5 Voices
5. Terrence Man. *blinks* Where did HE come from? Well I adore his rendition of "Roses" (never heard him sing anything else) so I am currently in love with him, hehe.
4. Norbert. Never been as obsessed about him as Hannah but I loved him in DRS and his voice is just *gorgeous* on the Last Five Years CD.
3. Michael Ball. Hannah said it first and better then I ever could so I shan't bother to just retype her comments here ;)
2. Anthony Warlow. I have no idea why I like his voice so much but it's just... beautiful.
1. Jason Robert Brown. Of course. He sings beautifully. AND he writes beautiful songs... it doesn't get much better then that.

The Jazz Conductor Review

So in case any of you are interested in reading the *terrible* review the play got in the paper (And btw, no this doesn't cut me up in the slightest, as I was not at all involved in the production of the play) here it is (I had to use a site to translate it from German to English and then cleaned up some of the grammar and stuff, so if it sounds weird I apologize):

A young man dreams about a great jazz career, joins the war as a soldier and rather coincidentally becomes involved in resistance activities and is captured. These are the basic elements which result in a short, 65-minute Theater evening in  the International Theater (Incidentally, the premiere was half-empty). But even this modest goal is not achieved; In the long run, this one person piece is actually only suited for the good old radio- where it would certainly get good reviews. Given the fact that the actress also directed the piece, if it were any good that alone would make it sheer genius.  Isabelle Abrokat has an admirable understanding of English; But it becomes, however, absolutely embarrassing, when - as she does extensively - she moves her body to jazz rhythms or conducts an imaginary orchestra. A one person piece lives or does with that one person, but even the addition of a second person could not save this piece.

----

Sorry that it sounds a bit weird but the translation site sucks and if you think THIS is bad you should have seen what it looked like before I cleaned it up ;)

Rehersal

Aie. Very tired this evening. But I have an essay to write so, naturally, rather then doing that, I'm posting on my blog.

I got to the theater at 6:00 today and Isabelle (the woman who is directing and starring in "The Jazz Conductor") showed me how the lighting worked and I skimmed the script and ran through the cues. The lighting board in the main theater is so much easier then the one in the Fundus, I was surprised at how simple this one was.
So, then at 6:45 I went down to the Fundus to take coats for Christmas Carol. It was a closed performance tonight-- all the tickets were bought by some publishing firm (or something like that), so they had set up a real party down there. Tables, waiters serving drinks...ect, it was a big event and quite a few people were in a twit. I'm sure it went fine but... I really don't know because at 7:30 I was back at the other theater doing the run through for Jazz Conductor. It went pretty smoothly I thought... I messed up one cue but not miserably so that was alright.

I actually had the gumption to ask Jack about writing me a recommendation the other day. It was incredibly nerve wracking so I, naturally, felt very pleased with myself afterwards.

Anyways, I *should* be writing that essay for Bard (Prompt: Describe what you do on a typical afternoon and evening in the time between school and sleep) (????), so I must away.

*Cheers*

Opening Night

Monday night was the premiere of "A Christmas Carol", Mummy, Daddy and Naomi were all in attendance. It went pretty well I thought, I was extremely nervous that people were going to flub their lines but they didn't and were all, naturally, brilliant. I was especially proud of Eric who had ALL his lines down; I'm always so pleased when he remembers his lines because he's incredibly nice. He gave me a box of chocolates and a very sweet note thanking me for helping him get his lines down (which I didn't really but w/e it was very nice.) Michael flubbed a few lines in Fred's party scene but he's pretty good at just continuing on so nobody really noticed (judging from Naomi's impression that he gave a flawless performance that is.)

After the show M, D, and N hung around for a little so they got to meet Roxy, Marianna, Marilyn and Jack. They wanted to thank Jack for letting me help out. Which I must say he deserves a lot of thanks for... doing this show was definitely one of the best experiences I've ever had. Unfortunatly now all the tickets are sold out so if I want to watch the show when I go help at the bar in the evenings I have to sit off stage where I can only see people if they are standing far stage left (And even then I can only see their heads.) Oh well. I can still hear them, which is fun.

Speaking of heads I am very disturbed by those mannequins that populate department store shelves now. Having a half a model (only the bust) seems to be Gap's way of saying "You will look fantastic in these clothes if you have a perfect figure and no head!" I'm sure there are many people who fall into this catagory but, not being one of them, I'm a bit non plussed by it.
